Tony Lee

Tony Lee is a leader and innovator at the forefront of the health insurance industry. For 27 years, he has combined business acumen with compassion to provide quality, accessible healthcare to people of all races and ethnicities—addressing health disparities and driving down costs. Whether he is building organizations, designing innovative insurance programs, assembling teams, or cultivating partnerships, Tony views his work through the lens of diversity and inclusion. He is both a champion for health equity and a thought leader for improving diversity in workforces, on executive teams, and in US and global supply chains.

Tony established a distinguished career as CEO of Dickerson Insurance Services. He developed the company into the nation’s largest minority-owned brokerage firm, tripled revenue, and then steered its acquisition by a large Chicago based brokerage firm. He directed the California Healthcare Exchange contract, designed California’s largest and longest running charter school insurance trust (CharterLIFE), and established a private health exchange for a well-known California Schools JPA (CharterSafe). Tony also pioneered one of the first commercial telemedicine programs in the US, which was recognized by Congress for enrolling the millionth member. The program now serves millions of people nationwide.

In addition to his work as an executive and program innovator, Tony has been a catalyst for change. He created one of the most diverse brokerage firms in the country with a workforce that crosses racial, religious, ethnic, and gender boundaries. Tony inspires and promotes change in the public and nonprofit sectors as well. He grew up in politics as the son of a career politician who is now a retiring senior member of Congress. In 2023 Tony served a sabbatical as a Senior White House Advisor for HRSA (Health Resource Service Administration). His portfolio included Health Equity, DEIA Recruitment Health Literacy and Maternal.

Tony was honored with a prestigious Leadership Award from the National African American Insurance Agents Association.

A curious, lifelong learner, he holds a degree from the University of California Santa Barbara.
