Fred Smith

Fred Smith is an Executive Vice President, acting as the Head of Mining at CAC Specialty for the Natural Resources Practice. Armed with over 20 years of experience in his field, Fred successfully develops and executes strategies to assist multinational mining & metals companies in risk management and risk finance.

Before joining CAC Specialty, Fred was Senior Vice President, Head of Mining & Metals USA at a major global broker where he was responsible for the development of value propositions for clients in the mining and metals industry. As a member of the North American Natural Resources leadership team, he played a crucial role in all facets of client accounts, from program structure, strategy and placement to complex claim resolution. Clients have ranged from the largest multinationals to small domestic operations as well as close alignment and interaction with reverse flow accounts managed outside the US.

Fred is a graduate of University of Colorado, Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He also did a 6-week internship at a Texas coal mine.
