David Barnes

David Barnes is the leader of the Representations & Warranties Insurance and Private Equity Practice at CAC Specialty.

David prides himself on getting deals done. With the CAC team David has helped place multiple billions in insurance limits across a range of transactional risk products for clients around the globe—including R&W insurance policies, complex litigation risk placements, stop-loss placements, and successor liability placements. He has experience in a range of industries from financial services, technology, insurtech, manufacturing, renewable energy, and more. In addition to being a broker, David leads CAC Specialty’s integrated Private Equity Practice (“PEP”)—which brings together Insurance and Employee Benefits Diligence Teams with go-forward brokers and service teams. The PEP creates seamless risk management solutions for CAC’s clients across all coverage lines from acquisition to exit.

Prior to joining CAC, David was a Vice President at McGriff, Seibels & Williams where he co-led the firm’s Transactional Insurance Practice. Before his career in insurance, he practiced law, first as a law clerk on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, and then at King & Spalding LLP, and then with Miller & Martin PLLC, where he focused on complex insurance coverage matters, post-acquisition disputes, and civil appeals. David has litigated cases in state and federal courts across the county, including the US Supreme Court.

David earned his Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Sewanee, The University of the South, and graduated as valedictorian from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
