Margaret Grote

Margaret Grote is a Vice President, Claims Advocate in the Natural Resources Practice, bringing more than 30 years of experience helping clients navigate complex, high-stakes marine and energy insurance claims. Known for her strategic, client-focused approach, Margaret works as a trusted advocate for policyholders, guiding them through every stage of the claims process to maximize recoveries, protect business continuity, and achieve commercially favorable outcomes.

Margaret’s comprehensive expertise spans some of the most challenging exposures in the natural resources sector, including offshore and onshore energy operations, marine casualties, business interruption, pollution liabilities, and cargo losses.  She is particularly valued for her ability to combine in depth policy interpretation with contract analysis, identifying coverage opportunities and developing effective strategies that enhance claim outcomes for clients.

Before joining CAC Specialty, Margaret served as Claims Manager at Marine & Energy at Ryan Specialty / Smooth Waters, LLC, where she led the supervision and training of staff adjusters as well as direct handling, negotiation, mediation and litigation management of complex, high-severity claims such as those involving control of well events, oil lease property losses, marine hull and machinery claims, protection and indemnity exposures, collision liabilities, cargo losses, stevedoring operations, and environmental liabilities. Margaret’s career also includes leadership and technical claims positions with Zurich Global Energy, AIG’s AI Marine Adjusters, Trident Marine Managers, St. Paul Companies and other insurers. This unique blend of insurer, adjuster, and brokerage experience provides her with a broad and detailed understanding of how claims are evaluated, reserved, negotiated, and resolved; an advantage she leverages to advocate effectively on behalf of clients.

In addition to holding the prestigious Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM), and Associate in Claims (AIC) designations,  Margaret is also licensed as a Property & Casualty Insurance Agent and All-Lines Adjuster in Texas.
